How Much Does Tree Removal Cost?

The decision to get a tree removed is a hard one to make. Sometimes the tree is just in the way of future plans you have for your property. Other times it can actually be a hazardous tree that needs to come down because of the risk of the tree falling on your house, barn, or vehicles. Regardless of the reason, we want you to feel confident in your decision to have a tree removed on your property. When making the decision, your first question is most likely how much is this going to cost? Just like most other tree services, the short answer is: it depends.

Price ultimately comes down to location of the tree, height, obstacles, amount of equipment needed, and how much we are cleaning up once it's on the ground. Now let’s talk about why each of these factors affect the price of a tree removal and how Up North Outdoor Services determines how much it’s going to cost you.

How big is your tree?

The size of your tree greatly determines how much it will cost to remove your tree. The bigger the tree the more branches there are to remove. Height also plays a big part in determining cost. If a tree is large and tall, that likely means that your tree is pretty old. Large, old trees can weigh A LOT. Smaller trees will of course cost less. Our minimum price to have a tree removed starts at $300, and goes up from there depending on several other factors.

Where is your tree located?

The easiest location for a tree removal job is in the middle of your yard with nothing surrounding it. If there are no barriers in the way such as your house, barns, fencing, landscaping, etc. then this makes our job a whole lot easier.

If your tree is located right next to your house or other structures, then this can make removal a little more difficult. To remove a tree like this takes more planning and coordination to safely remove all limbs. Depending on the size of the tree this could involve multiple maneuvers to safely lower branches to the ground.  This involves more time and labor which could ultimately affect the price of your tree removal job.

Is there a septic system we need to work around? If you live outside of town, most likely you have a septic system. Our equipment can be heavy and we don’t want to risk damaging your septic system. Some trees can be hard to get to. In these cases we ask how close can we get our equipment to the tree? Do we need to take down a fence or gain access from a neighboring property owner to either get to the tree or get debris out? Do we need to shut down a lane of traffic to safely do the project? We ask all of these questions during our time with you as the homeowner during our quotes. Location is just as important as the size of the tree when it comes to determining how much your tree will cost to be removed.

Is this an emergency?

Is your tree structurally sound? Or is it damaged, dead, rotted? A tree emergency doesn’t always mean a tree is laying on the house. Although we do offer those services as well, sometimes a tree needs to come down right away because of its potential to fall. These types of trees can be dangerous and unpredictable to remove. You always want to have a tree professional take a look at any tree showing signs of decay so that they can tell you if your tree needs to come down or not. Emergency situations are just another factor to add to your tree removal cost.

Do you want the stump removed?

A lot of homeowners that are getting a full tree removal will choose to get their stumps ground at the same time of the removal. This is completely optional, but all of the same factors that go into a regular stump grinding job will still affect the final price of your stump grinding. Choosing not to have the stump ground out at the time of removal can be a way homeowners can save some money during a tree removal.

Are we cleaning up the whole tree or are you planning to?

Every homeowner has options when it comes to cleaning up their tree. Cleanup can make up half the price when it comes to tree removal. Cleanup is manual labor. Depending on the size of the job and tree, cleanup can take a significant amount of time. Cleanup also involves more equipment and operation costs. The amount of cleanup is also one of the biggest ways you as the homeowner can save some money on your tree removal.

Option #1: Tree removal with nothing cleaned up

This option is for homeowners that already own a chainsaw but they just don’t have the right equipment to get to the taller parts of the tree and remove it safely. If you are capable of cutting the logs into smaller pieces and getting rid of the brush yourself then Up North Outdoor Services can safely get the tree on the ground for you and then you are left with the cleanup. This is the number one way to save money on a tree removal job. Just remember that the cost for us to walk up, cut the tree down and leave with no equipment needed except for a chainsaw is $300.

Option #2: Tree removal with brush only clean up

The second way to save money on tree removals is to have us clean up all the branches & brush and leave the homeowner to clean up all the big wood. This is a very popular option for customers that burn wood to heat their house during the winter.

Option #3: Tree removal with full cleanup

Don’t want to worry about having to clean up anything? No problem. When you choose to have a tree removal with full cleanup, this is exactly as it sounds. We will safely remove the tree and clean up any and all debris from your property. Depending on the size of the tree, this can add a significant amount to your final cost. The larger the tree the larger the wood that we have to remove from the property. This is a great choice for those that want everything taken care of so that they can continue to enjoy their property once the removal is complete.

Option #4: Tree removal with full cleanup + stump removal

This is the most expensive option you’re looking at when it comes to a full tree removal. This option is having us completely remove the whole tree and debris PLUS get the stump removed. If you just want the whole tree and stump gone so that you don’t have to worry about it anymore, then this is the option for you.

So what’s it going to cost me?

Remember when we said the short answer to pricing is it depends? Well this is where that answer comes into play. You won’t know exactly how much it will cost until we come out to give you a quote and determine if there are any other factors that affect the process of removing your tree.  To get a final price, we’ll have to come out and physically look at your tree. If your tree is on the smaller side, keep in mind that we do have a $300 minimum to cover our operating costs.

While you are trying to get an idea on how much your tree will cost to be removed, keep in mind  the following that could potentially increase the cost:

-How big is your tree?

-Where is the tree located?

-Is this an emergency?

-Do you want the stump removed?

-Who will be cleaning up the tree?

All of which will add to the final price on your tree removal job.

What if I can’t afford to get my tree removed? We do have payment options for certain situations. Let us know during your quote, and we can discuss the right option for you.
